The tinyWireless offers a unique PIC32 or PIC24 microcontroller development board with integrated HopeRF RFM69HW ISM band wireless module. tinyWireless is the latest in our range of very popular PIC32 and PIC24 development boards. These boards are popular with hobbyists and professionals alike. Our tinyWireless development boards offer a flexible development solution. They can be used as an independent development board or can be mounted in a solderless breadboard as part of a larger project.

This product is a bare PCB – you’ll need to buy the required components and assemble it yourself – which can be a fun project itself! Unlike our other PIC32 & PIC24 development boards, this one uses smaller 0603 components.

Microcontroller Options

Our tinyWireless development board is designed to support two powerful microcontroller options – the 16-bit PIC24 microcontrollers or the 32-bit PIC32 microcontrollers. The PIC24 microcontroller we recommend is the PIC24FJ64GB004, this provides you with a powerful 16-bit microcontroller with advanced features such as Peripheral Pin Select (PPS), allowing  you to remap the pins the microcontroller peripherals use. The PIC24FJ64GB004 supports Microchips XC16 C compiler. The PIC32 option we recommend is the very powerful 32-bit PIC32MX250F128D microcontroller. The PIC32MX250F128D is supported by Microchips XC32 C/C++ compiler and Microchips Harmony Integrated Software Framework. Installing a PIC32MX250F128D will allow your tinyWireless development board to run Arduino sketches (using open source tools)

Integrated Wireless Options

Our tinyWireless development board supports the HopeRF RFM69HW long range ISM band wireless transceiver. The RFM69HW is a long range, highly integrated, 433MHz, 868MHz or 915MHz RF wireless ISM transceiver module (frequency depends on the product selected). The high receiver sensitivity (–121dBm @ 1.2kbps) coupled with industry leading +20dBm output power ensures extended range and improved link performance. These modules can communicate over many, many km’s depending on the data rate and RF environment. All major RF communication parameters are programmable and most of them can be dynamically set.  The  RFM69HW offers the unique advantage of programmable narrow-band and wide-band communication modes without the need to modify external components. The RFM69HW is optimized for low power consumption while offering high RF output power and channelized operation. TrueRF™ technology enables a low-cost external component count (elimination of the SAW filter) whilst still satisfying ETSI and FCC regulations. The wide operating voltage range of 1.8–3.6 V and low current consumption makes the RFM69HW an ideal solution for battery powered applications. Communication with the RFM69HW module is via a standard 4-wire SPI interface from the tinyWireless microcontoller. Our tinyWireless board has all of this connected up to the PIC24 or PIC32 microcontroller ready for you to start on your wireless application. The RFM69HW also incorporates a range of other features, including an 8-bit ADC, temperature sensor, RX and TX FIFOs, AES encryption and low-battery detection.
